Summary:

Simon Fraser University (SFU) is among Canada’s leading comprehensive universities and consistently ranks as one of the top employers in the country. Make a worldwide impact at SFU, one of Canada’s most community-engaged research university. Defined by innovative education, cutting-edge research, and far-reaching community engagement, SFU values a healthy work-life balance, professional growth and development. Research Operations supports the institution’s research mission – providing a highly coordinated suite of services that cover all aspects of the research life-cycle. The Research Ethics team is a core part of RO. Behavioural studies with human participants represents a very large portion of overall research activity and, with a medical school in the planning, activity will only increase.

You will play an essential role in facilitating clear, timely reviews of human participants research, overseeing a dedicated team of professionals, liaising with the Ethics Board, training faculty and grad students, and building post-approval monitoring procedures. This includes:

  • Leading and broadening ethics and RCR education for students and faculty.
  • Implementing systems and workflows, developing website material, and writing procedures and interpretation documents.
  • Oversight of the ethical review and related compliance process for human participant research at SFU.
  • Work closely with the Research Ethics Board, supporting their operations, taking the lead on recruitment, and interact regularly with the REB chair to address issues as they arise.
