Peer Recognition Award
This award recognizes a CAREB-ACCER member for their service to the CAREB-ACCER community through professional excellence, collaboration, leadership, professional development, or communities of practice.
Examples of contributions to the CAREB community:
- Making a significant contribution to improving the effectiveness and efficiency of the processes of ethical review of research with humans
- Producing a research paper or other publication on research ethics or research ethics administration that positively impacts the work of their colleagues
- Creating educational tools related to research ethics for researchers or REB members
- Making a demonstrated contribution to the practice of research ethics administration locally, nationally or internationally
- Enhancing the standards and professionalism of research ethics management
- Demonstrating leadership, a vision and a mission to colleagues in the field of research ethics
- Achieving excellence in the profession beyond the scope of his/her primary professional role
- Leading by example, and actively contributing to enabling a respectful environment within CAREB-ACCER or within their institution, in relation to research ethics
Eligibility
- Membership in CAREB-ACCER at the time of nomination.
- Current members of the CAREB-ACCER Board of Directors are not eligible for this award.
Nomination and selection procedures
Nominations are made by the CAREB-ACCER membership at large and submitted to the Awards Committee via the president of the Association. Bestowing the awards shall be based on evidence submitted by the nominator(s) and the criteria outlined for the award. The Committee decides the final recipients by majority vote and submits them to the CAREB-ACCER Board of Directors for final approval.
Complete the nomination form, provide a letter of support, and any supporting material by May 24, 2022
Please provide clear examples of how the nominee meets the criteria for the award and the reason(s) for the nomination. It is helpful if the review committee can understand the scale of the nominee’s achievements, and their immediate and continuing impact.

President’s Award
The President’s Award is presented by the CAREB-ACCER Board of Directors to a current or former CAREB-ACCER member for their outstanding service, contribution and commitment to CAREB-ACCER.
Examples of contributions include: performing outstanding service to CAREB-ACCER which has significantly furthered the Association’s goals and mandate and/or has been of significant benefit to the Association; consistently contributing to CAREB-ACCER through active participation in the Association or on behalf of the Association; contributing significantly to the development or improvement of research ethics review or management through active participation in or on behalf of the Association.
Current members of the CAREB-ACCER Board of Directors are not eligible for this award.

Distinguished Service Award
The Distinguished Service Award (DSA) was established in 2013 to recognize accomplishments in research ethics beyond CAREB-ACCER’s activities. It is awarded by the CAREB-ACCER Board of Directors to individuals who have made exceptional contributions to the field of research ethics whether through teaching, research, or service, and whose work has been influential, exemplary, and the embodiment of a commitment to advancing research ethics.
Any person, whether a CAREB-ACCER member or not, can recommend an individual for consideration by contacting the CAREB-ACCER President.
Current members of the CAREB-ACCER Board of Directors are not eligible for this award.
