CanReview Collaboration – Project Manager

About the Role

CanReview is a pan-Canadian collaboration supported by the Accelerating Clinical Trials (ACT) Consortium to enable a single research ethics review for multi-site clinical trials conducted across Canada. More than a platform, CanReview is a collaborative framework committed to engaging the clinical trials community, validating REBs across Canada, establishing proactive mechanisms to support legislative requirements, publicly reporting approval timelines, and advocating to evolve legislature so that, together, we can achieve a broadly accessible single research ethics review system for Canada.

The CanReview Collaboration – Project Manager will be responsible for the overall management of the Collaboration. Significant experience working in the clinical trials ecosystem and/or research ethics review is essential for the success of this position. With support from the Operations Team based at Clinical Trials Ontario, the incumbent will manage the implementation of the CanReview Collaboration including project planning, implementation and evaluation, partner engagement, budget management, financial accountability, reporting, events/meeting coordination, and communications. The Project Manager will collaborate with the CanReview Leadership Team to cultivate strategic partnerships in all jurisdictions across Canada. The incumbent will also present results, review publications, and develop and deliver presentations at meetings and conferences. The Project Manager will contribute to completion of project deliverables and will ensure effective communication across CanReview and associated committees.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Ensure the deliverables of the CanReview project are met by contributing to the development and implementation of a Canada-wide streamlined research ethics review program
  • Propose implementation and engagements strategies to CanReview leadership; develop and distribute meeting agenda and minutes for CanReview committees; ensure the follow up on actions items
  • Cultivate strategic partnerships in all jurisdictions across Canada, including collaborations with researchers, research ethics boards, hospitals, universities, government organizations and industry, demonstrating, diplomacy, judgement, and leadership skills
  •  Assist in developing educational content, policies, processes, training resources and tools to support project deliverables
  • Develop, maintain, and monitor a detailed project management timeline and task set; work with the team and committees to set priorities and project objectives
  • Develop the project budget and be responsible for monitoring and reporting
  • Oversee the data collection required for evaluation of key metrics; synthesize data, compile data into reports, databases, manuscripts, and presentation tools
  • Undertake other duties as delegated in support of the successful execution of the CanReview Collaboration

Essential Background and Skills

  • Master’s degree in a health-related field, or equivalent combination of education and research experience
  • Minimum of five (5) years relevant experience in high-level coordination of complex research projects
  • Able to travel to participate in meetings, as required
  • Effective independent decision making and judgement abilities in addressing complex and sensitive issues regarding research plans
  • Excellent project management skills and ability to manage multiple priorities
  • Meticulous; strong attention to detail along with excellent organizational skills and the ability to manage competing priorities
  • Ability to work independently and be self-directed within guidelines provided by the CanReview leadership team
  • Excellent communication skills (oral and written), highly skilled in communicating in a clear, concise and precise manner; employing high quality standards for drafting, editing and proofreading documents
  • Effectively answer questions regarding CanReview project issues or redirect inquiries if necessary
  • Highly motivated with excellent problem-solving skills
  • Tactful, professional, courteous and customer service oriented
  • Strong commitment to achieving high quality results
  • Expert MS Office proficiency (Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint) required
  • Ability to contribute effectively and positively in a high functioning team environment as well as working independently on various projects
