The Trillium Health Partners (THP) Research Ethics Board (REB) is currently seeking interested and qualified applicants to serve as members of the Board. This is a great opportunity for you to learn about the research studies that takes place in our community, develop research ethics expertise, and contribute to protecting the rights, safety and welfare of research participants.
About our REB
The REB is a body established by the Board of Directors to protect the rights and welfare of human research participants. As an independent body, the REB ensures that all research involving human participants meets current ethical and scientific standards and is in compliance with the applicable regulations, standards, guidelines and policies as they relate to the ethical conduct of research.
What qualifications are needed?
Members of the REB are volunteers who are committed to ensuring that the research conducted at THP serves the unique needs of our diverse community, with the goal of improving health outcomes.
We are currently recruiting Board Members in the following three areas:
• Privacy Officer
• Lawyer/Expert in law
• AI Clinician/Researcher
• Expert in AI Ethics
What is required?
Commit time for board meetings including meeting preparation:
• Members must participate in a minimum of 10 (2 hour) pre-scheduled monthly face-to-face/virtual meetings per year. The time needed for review of materials for the meetings can vary depending on the number, content, and complexity of the submissions. Materials are provided one-two weeks in advance of the meeting to ensure enough time is provided for thorough review
• Time commitment involves approximately 6 to 8 hours per month
Participate in Delegated reviews:
• Based on your expertise, Members may be asked to assist the REB Chair/Vice Chair in reviewing minimal risk research studies outside of the monthly meetings
Training:
• Complete onboarding training, which includes mandatory research ethics training (TCPS 2: CORE-2022, etc.) and reviewing REB Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs)
